Training was held at Madagbayo community for the members of Madagbayo Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society on Group membership on 12th of February, 2026.
Prior to the training, a brief need assessment was carried out to know what are some of the challenges of the SHFs while working in a cooperative. SHFs complained about poor member's participation in the group and others also do not have good knowledge of carrying out routine maintenance in their oil palm farm.
During the training, SHFs were asked to mention why they have not been participating regularly in the cooperative, some mentioned the issue of communication, leadership structure and others explained availability at the time of meeting and activities.
the trainer helped the SHFs know where these challenges started from which include the channel of communication; and encouraged the group to have a proper information flow chart that can help all the member receive information as at when due.
Members should also be involved in every decision-making discussion/process that concerns meeting dates, contribution/dues amount, meeting dates etc. in the group so as not to feel unheard.
Leadership should encourage women participation in the leadership role and decision making and the group as a whole.
Members should also choose or vote their leaders to ensure trust and unity amongst them.
Okomu oil palm company trained SHFs on some routine farm maintenance activities which includes; prunning, slashing circle weeding etc that will help SHFs get more yield from their farm.
SHFs were excited and agreed to schedule a meeting to discuss at lenght the organizational structure of the cooperative and how they can work together to ensure sustainability and improve their livelihood.
